PERNOD RICARD LAUNCHES ‘THE CHUAN’ THEIR FIRST CHINESE MALT WHISKY
Pernod Ricard have introduced ‘The Chuan’, a malt whisky that is their inaugural venture into whisky production in China. Crafted at Pernod Ricard China’s distillery in Emeishan, Sichuan Province, this malt whisky is a fusion of European and Chinese barley, aged in locally sourced Chinese single oak casks.
Jerome Cottin-Bizonne, CEO of Pernod Ricard’s operations in China, highlighted their commitment to meeting the evolving preferences of Chinese consumers by introducing this range.
The brand includes three offerings: a primary whisky priced at 888 yuan (£100), a second variant finished in a PX cask at 1,119 yuan (£125), and a customisable edition for 1,488 yuan (£165).
Pernod Ricard saw a 17% increase in net sales from their Asia/Rest of World segment in the past year until June. Alexandre Ricard, the company’s Chairman and CEO, credited this growth to various factors including notable progress in markets like India, China, and Turkey, as well as a resurgence in travel-retail sales.
