To mark the much-anticipated return of Fèis Ìle – Islay’s annual celebration of whisky and music – Mac-Talla has revealed a striking limited edition single malt matured in first-fill Amarone wine casks.

Crafted by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers (MSWD), the Mac-Talla Amarone Cask Fèis Ìle 2025 Edition is the third special release from the brand in honour of the festival, which runs this year from 23rd to 31st May.

Following on from the 2023 Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask finish and 2024’s rum cask-matured expression, this 2025 bottling has been aged in premium Amarone della Valpolicella casks sourced from northern Italy. The result is a rich and elegant dram, bottled at a robust 53.8% ABV.

Tasting notes reveal layers of dark fruits, chocolate, and warming spice, all perfectly balanced with Mac-Talla’s hallmark peated, coastal character.

Lauren Doherty, senior brand manager at MSWD, commented:
“Each Fèis Ìle edition gives us the chance to push the boundaries of Islay whisky through the lens of exceptional wood. This year’s Amarone cask finish brings real depth and sophistication, while preserving the unmistakable smoky, maritime influence we’re known for.”

A truly limited release, only 928 bottles of this no-age-statement single malt have been produced, drawn from just two casks. Priced at £78, it is now available now.

Mac-Talla – meaning ‘echo’ in Scottish Gaelic – is a tribute to the Morrison family’s enduring bond with the island of Islay. The brand remains tight-lipped about its exact distillery sources, instead focusing on delivering the essence of Islay through bold peat and thoughtful cask influence.
