THE BEST WHISKY UNDER £200: THE WHISKYMAKER’S EDITIONS GALÁXIA REVIEW
It’s a bold claim, but The Whiskymaker’s Editions: Galáxia is the best whisky that we have tasted under £200, if you’re looking to treat yourself then this is THE BOTTLE to get. Here’s our review.
Galáxia stands as the final masterpiece by whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi, a former whisky maker for The Macallan, where he became one of the foremost experts in Sherry cask maturation. It embodies the art of flavour creation and elevation, using bespoke sherry-seasoned casks and the unique technique of élevage. Unlike conventional maturation, élevage is an active commitment throughout the ageing process, conducting the interplay between spirit, oak, and air, where the majority of the whisky’s flavour is created.
In the illustrious tapestry of The Whiskymaker’s Editions series, Galáxia shines brightly. This remarkable whisky brings together creamy textures, malt, stewed fruits, spices, and floral fragrances into onw, creating a combination of flavours that celebrates the entire series in a grand finale.
Flavour Profile
Rich, indulgent, and seductively perfumed, on the nose Galáxia offers aromas of dark fruitcake laced with ginger, cocoa nibs, and apple crumble.
On the palate, it unfolds as complex and creamy, with wood spice harmonising beautifully with Manuka honey, candied pecans, and Christmas cake.
The finish is bold and lingering, with notes of dark fruit and decadent chocolate, leaving a lasting impression. What is amazing about this whisky is that it’s 54% so it’s strong, but on the palate it feels so soft and smooth, making it very easy to drink.
In essence, Galáxia is a testament to the art of flavour creation and elevation, inviting reflection on all the past Whiskymaker’s Editions in a grand celebration of all that has come before.
