Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 2
Cask Strength Batch 2 is the second in a series of annual limited-edition bottlings. Each batch will be bottled straight from the casks without water, like trying samples from the warehouse itself!
Cask Strength Batch 2 showcases something entirely new from Lochlea, as Production Director John Campbell has selected a combination of Oloroso Sherry, STR and PX casks from their warehouse that work particularly well at higher strength, amplifying the signature fruit, nut, and cereal flavours.
This whisky opens with apples, peach syrup, and marmalade. Then comes wild lavender and rose petals on the palate. The finish is long and continues with more fruit and a hint of black pepper.
Nose: Apples, peach syrup, marmalade
Palate: Wild lavender, rose petals
Finish: Black pepper, signature Lochlea fruit

Lochlea Overtone UK Exclusive
£59.99 inc. VATOne of the benefits of Lochlea’s position as an independent distillery is their ability to experiment and collaborate with other like-minded brands. When they discovered Overtone, one of Glasgow’s best craft breweries, was on the hunt for whisky casks to mature their first-ever double mash stout, Lochlea couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Lochlea gifted the brewery with the cask makeup of their core expression, Our Barley: three bourbon barrels, two STR barriques, and one Oloroso sherry butt.
The brewery matured their double mash stout in these casks for six months, after which they were returned to Lochlea. Upon their return, the production team filled each stout-seasoned cask with the core expression, Our Barley, for one year. From these, the team at Lochlea selected three casks to be married together, resulting in their first-ever ‘Stout Cask Finish’.
2018 Brunello di Montalcino, San Polo, Tuscany, Italy
In the glass, this Brunello has an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. The typical aromas of violets and red berries are followed by hints of vanilla, cedar and coffee. On the palate, it is full-bodied and warm with a densely-woven texture and robust tannins, while the finish is persistent and rounded.
2018 will be remembered as a difficult vintage, characterised by rainy and humid conditions lasting throughout the summer months. Careful management in the vineyard and winery were vital. From mid-September onwards, the continuous sunny weather provided a wonderful end to the season and contributed to a successful harvest.

This second and final Overtone release comprises just five casks in total: three stout-seasoned (two Bourbon barrels, one STR barrique), one first fill Bourbon barrel, and one ex-peated Bourbon barrel. The result is a whisky that deepens the stout’s earthy, chocolatey character while enhancing sweet vanilla and gentle smoke. Carefully married to harmonise the flavours, this release offers a familiar yet distinctive profile. Lochlea invites whisky lovers to enjoy this final chapter in the Overtone collaboration, crafted with passion and precision.
Produced by Lochlea Distillery, an independent, family-run operation in Ayrshire, Scotland, this whisky reflects their commitment to local ingredients, sustainable practices, and full on-site maturation. The distillery’s collaboration with Overtone Brewery, a Glasgow-based craft brewer, began with shared casks used to mature stout before being returned to Lochlea for whisky finishing.

Chances are there wasn't collaboration, communication, and checkpoints, there wasn't a process agreed upon or specified with the granularity required. It's content strategy gone awry right from the start. Forswearing the use of Lorem Ipsum wouldn't have helped, won't help now. It's like saying you're a bad designer, use less bold text, don't use italics in every other paragraph. True enough, but that's not all that it takes to get things back on track.
The villagers are out there with a vengeance to get that Frankenstein
You made all the required mock ups for commissioned layout, got all the approvals, built a tested code base or had them built, you decided on a content management system, got a license for it or adapted:
- The toppings you may chose for that TV dinner pizza slice when you forgot to shop for foods, the paint you may slap on your face to impress the new boss is your business.
- But what about your daily bread? Design comps, layouts, wireframes—will your clients accept that you go about things the facile way?
- Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever.
- Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.
- Websites in professional use templating systems.
- Commercial publishing platforms and content management systems ensure that you can show different text, different data using the same template.
- When it's about controlling hundreds of articles, product pages for web shops, or user profiles in social networks, all of them potentially with different sizes, formats, rules for differing elements things can break, designs agreed upon can have unintended consequences and look much different than expected.
This is quite a problem to solve, but just doing without greeking text won't fix it. Using test items of real content and data in designs will help, but there's no guarantee that every oddity will be found and corrected. Do you want to be sure? Then a prototype or beta site with real content published from the real CMS is needed—but you’re not going that far until you go through an initial design cycle.
