Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance.

2023 `TYDY’ Sauvignon Blanc IGP Val de Loire, TYDY, France

Original price was: £13.50.Current price is: £11.00. inc. VAT

Thierry Delaunay TYDY 2023 is pale yellow in colour with youthful hints with a very expressive nose, this wine marries notes of grapefruit, pear and fresh lime with a subtle touch of tropical fruit. These bright fruit aromas are mirrored on the palate which is round and framed by a delicate touch of sweetness.

The 2023 vintage began with a cool and relatively rainy winter which replenished soil water reserves after the hot and dry 2022 vintage. The vineyards largely escaped the threat of spring frosts and flowering and fruit set took place under excellent dry and sunny conditions. It was very dry during July and August and some welcome showers arrived in September and gave the vines a necessary boost to complete the final stages of ripening. The harvest began in mid-September and the quality of the fruit was excellent.

2023 Soave Classico, Pieropan, Veneto, Italy

Original price was: £16.00.Current price is: £14.85. inc. VAT

Pieropan Soave Classico 2023 is straw yellow in colour, with greenish hints. On the nose it has aromas of almond blossoms and marzipan, with a touch of citrus. On the palate it is rounded and has flavours of ripe fruit perfectly balanced by a fresh, clean acidity that enhances its long length.

The 2023 vintage saw extremely varied conditions, with a mild and dry winter followed by a cold and rainy spring. Continuous rainfall during the delicate budding and flowering phases made vineyard management extremely complicated. However, the abundance of water allowed the vines to grow luxuriously and production was abundant.

2018 Brunello di Montalcino, San Polo, Tuscany, Italy

Original price was: £65.00.Current price is: £59.99. inc. VAT

In the glass, this Brunello has an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. The typical aromas of violets and red berries are followed by hints of vanilla, cedar and coffee. On the palate, it is full-bodied and warm with a densely-woven texture and robust tannins, while the finish is persistent and rounded.

2018 will be remembered as a difficult vintage, characterised by rainy and humid conditions lasting throughout the summer months. Careful management in the vineyard and winery were vital. From mid-September onwards, the continuous sunny weather provided a wonderful end to the season and contributed to a successful harvest.

2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, No Fine Print, California, USA

Original price was: £26.00.Current price is: £22.00. inc. VAT

No Fine Print 2022 is a delicious balance of fruit-forward ripeness and fresh acidity. This wine has a bright, black fruit character along with a rich, round mouthfeel.

The 2022 vintage yielded excellent quality fruit. Following several drought years in California, substantial winter rainfall helped to replenish water reserves. This was followed by a dry March. Spring frosts in April and May reduced yields. The warm late summer and autumn provided excellent ripening conditions and harvest started two weeks ahead of average. Overall, yields were slightly down, but concentration was very good.

2019 Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir, Racines, California, USA

Original price was: £60.00.Current price is: £54.50. inc. VAT

An attractive wine, with flavours of sweet, dried cherry, mint, tobacco and sage. A savoury style of Pinot Noir, with plenty of aromatic presence, and plenty of fruit in the background.

The 2019 vintage offered optimal growing conditions in the Santa Rita Hills. Cooler, mild spring days resulted in a later bud break and flowering. Flowering took place after the common springtime winds and helped to ensure a good set. Summer offered overall moderate conditions, with few heat spikes leading to consistent and predictable ripening and longer hang-time. Cooler autumn temperatures allowed the fruit to ripen evenly and steadily, resulting in a later picking date than the previous two vintages. While the yields were slightly smaller than the previous years, the vineyards produced high quality, flavourful fruit.

2019 Saint-Julien, Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré, Bordeaux, France

Original price was: £50.00.Current price is: £41.00. inc. VAT

Château Léoville Poyferré 2019 has a typically seductive bouquet with layers of ripe black fruit laced with tobacco, sous-bois, touches of marmalade and dried orange peel. Give it another hour and more blue fruit begins to emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with lavish, luxuriant black fruit and a creamy texture that is instantly seductive. It is a more opulent Saint-Julien than the Barton with a satin-like texture on the finish. If you love the style of Léoville-Poyferré then you will adore this. 2026 – 2065

2021 `Quinta da Leda` Douro Tinto, Casa Ferreirinha, Portugal

Original price was: £50.00.Current price is: £43.50. inc. VAT

Casse Ferreirinha 2021 is a wine of great intensity, complexity and elegance. On the nose, aromas of ripe red and black fruits combine with spicy notes of cedar and tobacco box and subtle floral notes of rose and violet. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe and velvety tannins and a refreshing acidity which carries the complex flavours onto the lingering finish.

The 2020 vintage in the Douro got off to an unsettled start with a rainy spring causing an increase in disease pressure in the vineyards and a reduction in yields. The summer was dry and very hot and featured the hottest July in the last 30 years. This accelerated the growing cycle and required careful canopy management to avoid grape sunburn. Some rainfall in mid-August gave the vines the boost needed to undergo the final stages of ripening during the heat that continued in September. 2020 was one of the earliest harvests on record in the Douro and yields were down 30% compared to 2019, but the quality of the grapes harvested was excellent.

Chances are there wasn't collaboration, communication, and checkpoints, there wasn't a process agreed upon or specified with the granularity required. It's content strategy gone awry right from the start. Forswearing the use of Lorem Ipsum wouldn't have helped, won't help now. It's like saying you're a bad designer, use less bold text, don't use italics in every other paragraph. True enough, but that's not all that it takes to get things back on track.

The villagers are out there with a vengeance to get that Frankenstein

You made all the required mock ups for commissioned layout, got all the approvals, built a tested code base or had them built, you decided on a content management system, got a license for it or adapted:

  • The toppings you may chose for that TV dinner pizza slice when you forgot to shop for foods, the paint you may slap on your face to impress the new boss is your business.
  • But what about your daily bread? Design comps, layouts, wireframes—will your clients accept that you go about things the facile way?
  • Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever.
  • Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.
  • Websites in professional use templating systems.
  • Commercial publishing platforms and content management systems ensure that you can show different text, different data using the same template.
  • When it's about controlling hundreds of articles, product pages for web shops, or user profiles in social networks, all of them potentially with different sizes, formats, rules for differing elements things can break, designs agreed upon can have unintended consequences and look much different than expected.

This is quite a problem to solve, but just doing without greeking text won't fix it. Using test items of real content and data in designs will help, but there's no guarantee that every oddity will be found and corrected. Do you want to be sure? Then a prototype or beta site with real content published from the real CMS is needed—but you’re not going that far until you go through an initial design cycle.
