ORKNEY DISTILLERY BEGIN DISTILLATION
Orkney Distillery has officially started distilling whisky, following delays due to the Covid pandemic. Having set the distillery up in 2017, the distillery gained their licence to distil whisky and rum in 2023, with rum already being produced and whisky now following. As well as these two spirits, Orkney distillery have also been producing gin which has been on the shelves for some time through their flagship gin Kirkjuvagr and their pink gin Beyla.
The distillery was founded by Stephen Kemp and his wife Aly in Kirkwall. Stephen commented that “Whisky production has been our dream since we began work on the distillery in 2017, so we were incredibly excited to receive our official approvals to allow us to finally begin production.
“Over the past seven years, The Orkney Distillery has become well established within the Scottish drinks sector, with our award-winning range of Kirkjuvagr gins a firm favourite in the marketplace.
“Our single malt Scotch whisky will be a fantastic addition to the distillery’s product range and will be crafted with the same commitment and attention to detail that we’ve applied to our gin production.
The distillery will start by selling two blended whiskies (one unpeated and the other peated), before producing a single malt whisky that will be finished in a series of smaller casks.
