GLENLIVET UNVEIL RARE WHISKY COLLECTION USING BLOCKCHAIN

Glenlivet, the Speyside distillery has been patiently nurturing some special whisky since 1974, moving it from a bourbon barrel to a refill hogshead. Now, after 50 years, they’re selling a limited edition collection of twelve bottles on a blockchain-enabled marketplace, priced at £34,000 each.

These incredibly unique bottles represent the 12 essential elements that define Glenlivet: Air, Angel Share, Barley, Cooper, Copper, Distiller, Earth, Fire, Heritage, Time, Water, and Wood. To add a touch of modern flair, The Glenlivet employed AI to craft distinct labels for each bottle.

The whisky, described by Kevin Balmforth, a cask expert at The Glenlivet, as having “remarkable depth and character,” is going to be bottled this summer, marking the Speyside distillery’s 200th anniversary.

This rare collection is the first to be offered on a new marketplace created by The Whisky Exchange. Purchases made through The Whisky Exchange Cabinet will come with a transferable digital certificate, which will allow for traceability and security.

Not only will buyers of this collection get the digital certificate, but they will also get the chance to redeem 5cl samples of the rare whisky at ages 48, 49, and 50, along with the full bottle upon its release this summer.
