This exclusive Indian single malt, produced by Piccadily Agro Industries Limited, has once again captured global recognition, securing a Gold Medal at the Whiskies of the World Awards 2024. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, this remarkable whisky continues to showcase the growing influence of Indian single malts on the world stage.
A Global Award-Winning Whisky
The Whiskies of the World Awards is one of the most prestigious whisky competitions globally, where an esteemed panel of experts rigorously evaluates whiskies based on aroma, flavour, and finish. Indri’s latest triumph reaffirms its commitment to crafting world-class single malts that highlight the richness of Indian terroir.
Siddhartha Sharma, Promoter of Piccadily Agro Industries Limited, remarked: “Indri’s latest triumph at Whiskies of the World Awards, coupled with our position as the world’s fastest-growing single malt brand, marks a pivotal moment in our journey. We are committed to pushing boundaries and placing Indian single malts alongside the best in the world.”
What Makes Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2024 So Unique?
This year’s Diwali Collector’s Edition stands out as a peated single malt, offering a distinctive experience compared to Indri’s core range. Crafted from Indian six-row barley, distilled in traditional copper pot stills, and aged in hand-selected sherry casks, it embodies a perfect balance of elegance and complexity. Bottled at 50% ABV, this whisky showcases a bold yet refined profile.
Tasting Notes
Nose: A touch of bonfire smoke, complemented by subtle rubber notes, vanilla custard, macadamia nuts, raisins, grilled pineapple, and a hint of earthy spice.
Palate: A deeper peat presence than expected, with layers of cinnamon, dates, brown sugar, smoked plums, and black cherries. Hints of crème caramel, toffee, Parma ham, and charred oak add to its complexity.
Finish: Medium length with lingering wood smoke and jammy, fruity sweetness.
The Influence of Indian Six-Row Barley
One of the most intriguing aspects of this whisky is its use of six-row barley, which has a higher protein and enzyme content than the two-row barley commonly used in Scotch whisky. This results in a whisky with greater body, spice, and depth. While other Indian distilleries also use six-row barley, this is a rare example of a peated expression crafted from it—offering a new and exciting dimension to the flavour profile.
A Must-Have for Collectors and Connoisseurs
The Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2024 is an extremely limited release, making it a must-have for whisky collectors and enthusiasts. Its combination of peat, sherry cask maturation, and Indian barley creates a one-of-a-kind whisky that is both unique and globally recognised.
