ARDBEG THE ABYSS: A LEGENDARY WHISKY REBORN

Back in 2009, Ardbeg released the Corryvreckan Limited Edition. The whisky had matured in heavily toasted French oak casks, which infused it with ‘unparalleled power’. Today, only a few of those casks remain, and Ardbeg have decided to return them in the form of The Abyss. This is going to be an exceptionally rare whisky, bottled at cask strength 48.4% and limited to just 400 bottles.

To mark this special release, Ardbeg has partnered with acclaimed comic book artist Tradd Moore to create a special limited edition comic. This comic, accompanying the rare ‘heart of Corryvreckan’ whisky from 1989, celebrates the whisky’s rebirth and the retelling of its legend.

The Abyss is set to become a legend in its own right. As Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s Director of Distilling, explains: “These casks were the heart of the original Corryvreckan, which was intended to be unrepeatable. I never believed we could recreate it!”

Aroma
Rich and aromatic yet mellow and gentle, the aroma captivates with notes of toasting marshmallows, aromatic tea leaves, roasted chestnut, and baking sourdough. Hints of lemon balsam, and antique leather add complexity, while a splash of water reveals herbal notes, lemon sherbet, and pine resin.

Taste
The mouthfeel is wonderfully mellow with a touch of spiciness. Bold flavors of dark chocolate, pecan nut toffee, old leather, clove, ginger, treacle, and creosote emerge. The smoke, beautifully entwined with oak tannins, lingers throughout.

Finish
The finish offers enticing hints of baked apple, aniseed, and oak.

The Abyss is presented in a special casing, inspired by the whirlpool at the heart of its story. This remarkable casing features portholes, gauges, and a masterfully-engineered locking mechanism, promising a journey of discovery and hidden depths.
