The Irish Derby
The Derby cocktail is a lovely drink that is made with lime juice, sweet vermouth and orange curacao. This cocktail dates back to 1947 and the use of Irish whiskey with its spicy and slightly citrusy notes makes it a great choice.
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 ounces of Irish whiskey
– 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
– 1/2 ounce curacao
– 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime
– 2 dashes Angostura bitters
– Lime twist to garnish
Combine the ingredients to a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with lime.
Irish Coffee
An absolute classic and one of the most ordered after dinner cocktails, the Irish coffee is a great way to end the evening with coffee, alcohol and cream! There are some key steps to undertake when making a great Irish coffee – you need to use a well sized glass (one that is not too large), top with no more than 4 ounces of coffee, and lighlty whip the cream (it should be frothy and no peaks should form).
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
– 1 – 2 teaspoons sugar
– Hot coffee (no more than 4 ounces)
– Whipped cream on top
Whiskey, Giner Ale & Lime
This is a drink that is very easy to make, and very easy to drink! Also known as an Irish mule, this classic Irish cocktail dates back to the 19th century. It’s fizzy, slightly sweet and refreshing.
Simply combine 1 part Irish whisky (or 2 if you feel like it), 3 parts ginger ale, and a wedge of lime. If you prefer a slightly more bitter drink then simply add more lime and squeeze it in.
